Tuesday 12 February 2013 00:14 CET | News

UK financial services provider Nationwide Building Society has entered an agreement with Visa Europe to introduce V.me digital wallet for online payments. Nationwide is preparing to roll out an initial trial in 2013.

V.me by Visa enables consumers to make online payments via the internet browser on a computer, laptop, tablet or smartphone. V.me stores personal account information behind layers of security within Visas network. Thus, consumers will not have to re-enter account number, bill-to and ship-to information at checkout.

Visa Europe has reveal plans to further develop V.me service and incorporate other Visa technologies including contactless payment at the point of sale and person-to-person payments.

In Europe alone there are 466 million Visa cards and in the year up to September 2012 and over EUR 1 trillion was spent on Visa debit cards. Visa Europe expects that one-third of all European consumers will be using V.me by 2020.
