Paymate experiences disruption caused by DDoS attack

Thursday 18 February 2010 07:49 CET | News

Online payment service Paymate has been the target of a DDoS (distributed denial-of-service) attack, which has caused the temporary disruption in the company`s service, according to Garrett Gafke, Paymate`s president and CEO.

The interruption has had no negative impact on user data or information of any kind. Its unclear who launched the attack against Paymate and what their motives may have been Gafke mentioned.

In 2009, Facebook, Twitter and LiveJournal were also victims of Distributed Denial of Service attacks. A DDoS attack is one in which a multitude of compromised systems attack a single target, thereby causing denial of service for users of the targeted system. The incoming messages to the target system force it to shut down, thereby denying service to the system to legitimate users.
