PayPal has signed an agreement with Doku, an Indonesia-based payment solutions provider, in order to expand its business to Indonesia’s small and medium enterprises.

As a result of the alliance, merchants will now be able to accept payments in foreign currency. Hence, Doku will start offering companies, especially those in tourism, airlines as well as import and export, an extension of services to include PayPal. Doku’s clients include state-owned airline operator, Garuda Indonesia, online ticket box Raja Karcis and children’s play land Kidzania. Doku connects these clients with six banks, including Bank Mandiri and Bank Central Asia (BCA).

PayPal has at least 117 million active accounts worldwide and enables transactions in 25 different currencies. In 2011, the company has handled USD 118 billion in payment transactions.

According to a survey by Frost & Sullivan, the Indonesian e-commerce transaction revenues will hit USD 650 million in 2015, 40.2 percent more than in 2010.

In recent news, PayPal has revealed plans to introduce a point-of-sale application in India, which will allow online shoppers to use their debit and credit cards to make transactions using mobile devices.
