PayPal expands offline payment services

PayPal has revealed plans to extend its initial pilot program at retailer store Home Depot by expanding into all of the hardware supplier’s US stores.

After testing the new technology in 51 Home Depot locations across the US, the company has decided to roll out its brick-and-mortar service to other Home Depot locations on February 2012.

Starting with March 2012, PayPal`s in-store payments system is expected to be available at all of Home Depots 2,000 US locations.

Apart from expanding across Home Depot, PayPal is also expected to make its service available at about 20 different retailers by the end of 2012. In addition, PayPal has also been testing its brick and mortar service at Office Depot, a supplier of computer software and office furniture.

PayPals brick-and-mortar service allows account holders to enter their phone number and a PIN at a terminal in order to make a purchase. Customers can also pay by using their cards.

In Q4 2011, PayPal has seen its revenues reach USD 1.2 billion, up by 28 percent as compared to Q4 2010. EBays core marketplaces business revenue increased jumped 16 percent, reaching USD 1.8 billion.

In January 2012, PayPal has selected US home improvement retailer Home Depot to test an in-store payment system which enables shoppers to buy items without cash or a traditional credit card.
