Online payment company PayPal has launched its local currency service in Russia, online media outlet themoscowtimes.com reveals.

According to the source, 13 e-commerce companies have already added PayPal as a payment option to their websites. These companies include Ozon.ru, Lamoda.ru, Anywayanyday.com, Enter, Svyaznoi, tutu.ru and others.

In accordance with Russian regulations, all e-commerce organisations operating in Russia need to have a non-credit banking institution license from the Central Bank. The latter granted PayPal a license in May 2013.

In recent news, PayPal has unveiled the launch of PayPal Beacon, a plug-in device for merchants that is set to enable consumers to make hands-free payments in a number of stores.
