Sony Music has selected Materna Communications, a Germany-based agency for mobile marketing and content and Netherlands-based online payment services provider GlobalCollect as partners for a program regarding Direct to Consumer sales (D2C) on its labels artist websites via a viral widget.

The partnership aims at the development of a retail offering on Sony labels` artist websites across the EMEA region allowing for the sale of digital downloads direct to consumers (D2C). Under the terms of the deal, Maternas e-commerce platform, which is called MACS – Multimedia Application and Content Server, will offer the necessary software tools to create a viral widget which will enable the implementation of a microstore software into online platforms and social networking sites. Sony Music will thus re-direct traffic to an artists website and enable fans to share information and to download the artist’s repertoire. The offering will also include artist merchandise and concert tickets in the future.

As a result of the collaboration with GlobalCollect, the service supports a variety of localised payment options. At the end of May 2009, Sony Music signed a contract with GlobalCollect to facilitate local and international payment transactions for its artists online platforms. GlobalCollect’s single-interface online payment platform, WebCollect provides access to payment methods in over 200 countries, including credit and debit cards, direct debits, bank transfers, real-time bank transfers, e-wallets, cash at outlets, prepaid methods, checks and invoices.
