Steam, a platform developer for PC and Mac games operated by Valve Corporation, has signed an agreement with paysafecard, a global provider of payment processing services.

Under the deal, Steam’s consumers will be able to pay for their digital content purchases using paysafecard’s prepaid vouchers. The prepaid voucher is designed for users who do not have a credit or debit card or who avoid using such cards for online purchases and other micro payments on the internet. To authorize a payment, users have to enter a 16-digit PIN code, similar to the system used with prepaid phone cards.

Founded in 2000, paysafecard operates in 25 countries worldwide with offices in Vienna, London, Bern and Buenos Aires. Most recently, the company has signed an agreement with Netherlands-based payment services provider GlobalCollect in a bid to expand the coverage of its payment services on the Latin American market.
