In the Netherlands, the use of the iDEAL online payment system has jumped by 25 percent reaching 117 million transactions in 2012, as unveiled by recent statistics cited by online media outlet Telecompaper.

In its annual report, bank traffic company Currence has mentioned that during the period under review, a total of EUR 8.8 billion worth of goods were bought via PayPal. The number of foreign payments via PayPal has also increased in 2012, to 18 percent of the total number of transactions.

The online payment method can now be used at web shops in 51 countries. According to Currence, more and more entrepreneurs are letting Collecting Payment Service Providers (CPSPs) handle their iDEAL payments. CPSPs provide different services, including the integration of different payment methods used by companies.

Currence manages iDEAL on behalf of the Dutch banks. iDEAL provides consumers with internet banking for online purchases in web shops, by directly linking them to the online banking website of their own bank.
