Wirecard, Libra Bank, Rakuten Viber team up for instant messenger payments

Friday 4 October 2019 11:58 CET | News

Wirecard has announced that it is working with Rakuten Viber and NeoPay to launch a new money transfer service for users of Rakuten Viber.

With Moneytou, powered by Mastercard, users will be able to send money to each other via the messaging app. Wirecard will process these peer-to-peer (P2P) transactions made with payment cards linked to the Moneytou service, with Libra Internet Bank acting as the local acquirer.

After the launch in Hungary, the service will be rolled-out across other Eastern European markets targeting 25 million users in the first phase.

To transfer funds, users need to tap a separate Moneytou icon within the Rakuten Viber messaging app without the need for bank account numbers or codes. Users will be able to send up to HUF 125,000 a month, and up to HUF 780,000 a year.
