AmEx, VeriFone to enable card members to use points for their fare in NYC taxi cabs

Tuesday 22 October 2013 10:12 CET | News

American Express and US-based electronic payment services provider VeriFone Systems teamed up to enable eligible card members to use Membership Rewards points from American Express for their fare in NYC taxi cabs.

The program is set to roll out on VeriFones in-taxi devices that process 200,000 payments a day in 7,000 cabs throughout NYC.

At the end of the ride, card members who have chosen to pay with ‘Credit’ will be prompted by the Taxi TV screen to swipe their card. When American Express card members swipe an eligible card enrolled in the Membership Rewards program and if there are enough points in their account, they will receive an on-screen prompt giving them the option to use points for their ride fare, including tip and tolls.

In recent news, VeriFone Systems has launched Ruby2, a touch screen point of sale (POS) solution and Commander Site Controller, a website management solution, both designed to provide payment acceptance and management functionality for convenience store retailers.
