Myanmar-based financial institution Co-Operative Bank has made the first international ATM transaction using a MasterCard-branded card.

The transaction has been completed at the headquarters of CB Bank, at the same location where Myanmar‘s first ATM was installed in November 2011. Tourists and business travellers with an international MasterCard, Maestro or Cirrus card will now be able to withdraw money, including in the local currency ‘kyat’, for the first time at 36 CB Bank ATMs around Myanmar, which also includes an outlet at Yangon International Airport.

According to Mr. Kyaw Lynn, Executive Chairman and CEO, CB Bank, cited by online media outlet businesswire.com, the use of MasterCard-branded cards at POS terminals should be available in Myanmar within four months.
