US electronic payment processing services provider Encore Payment Systems has added Check 21 capabilities to the functions the companys Clear Charge POS software presently incorporates.

As a result of the update, Clear Charge has become Check 21 capable with a check imager. Clear Charge enables dual-sided images with a check imager so merchants to include a copy of both the front and back of a check in their records. Check 21 is a US federal law designed to enable electronic checks transfer between banks. Clear Charge also includes multi-merchant capabilities, which enable the system to process up to nine different merchant accounts on one system.

The software functions as a payment processing terminal, being capable of processing credit, debit, checks, EBT and gift and loyalty cards.

In related news, Encore Payment Systems introduced an application which allows merchants to process credit and debit card transactions via its network by making use of an iPhone, iPod Touch or T-Mobile G1 over Wifi or 3G wireless connections.
