Gemalto rolls out Smart Guardian USB device for data loss prevention

Friday 9 October 2009 08:54 CET | News

Dutch digital security company Gemalto introduces a smart card-based USB token for enterprises.

Dubbed Protiva Smart Guardian and based on smart card technology from Gemalto and flash technology from Lexar, the device enables digital data integrity and data loss prevention by providing a platform to access corporate resources. Smart Guardian also integrates management options which enable end-users and administrators to register new devices, update software on the devices, implement protected corporate applications, as well as remotely block a lost or stolen token. In order to use it, users will insert their authorised portable token and enter a passphrase to unlock the device and thus enable any transferred data to be automatically encrypted.

The device also enables two-factor authentication based on something the user has (the USB token) and something the user knows (the passphrase).
