US-based prepaid financial services provider Green Dot has joined the PCI Security Standards Council to bring its contribution to the payment data security worldwide.

Green Dot will play an active role in the standards setting process. Endorsed by American Express, Discover Financial Services, JCB International, MasterCard Worldwide and Visa, the PCI Security Standards require merchants and service providers that store, process or transmit customer payment card data to adhere to information security controls and processes which ensure data protection.

The PCI SSC is a global, open industry standards body providing management of the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS), PIN Transaction Security (PTS) requirements and the PA-DSS.

Green Dot provides money management services to the US consumers. The company also owns and operates the Green Dot Network, the prepaid card reload network. Green Dot products are available online and at more than 55,000 retail stores, including Walmart, Walgreens, CVS, Rite Aid, 7-Eleven, Kroger, Kmart, Meijer, and Radio Shack.
