Japan: Western Union to offer money transfer service via partnership with Travelex

Wednesday 13 January 2010 11:20 CET | News

UK-based foreign exchange company Travelex has been selected as the first non-banking institution to provide money transfer services in Japan under Western Union.

Travelex will start offering such services in the region, following the new Financial Settlement Act which is to be implemented by June 2010. According to the terms of this new law, which was passed by the government in June 2009, non-banks can conduct money transfer operations. On successful registration of Western Union as a money-transfer provider, Travelex is expected to become a Western Union Agent and offer the Western Union Money Transfer service in Japan.

Currently, Travelex offers the Western Union Money Transfer service at 356 retail locations in city centres and across 109 airports worldwide.
