MoneyGram expands presence in Serbia via agreement with Alpha Bank Srbija

MoneyGram International has signed a contract with financial services provider Alpha Bank Srbija to add MoneyGram money transfer services to over 165 locations in Serbia, in a bid to double MoneyGrams network in the country.

Customers can collect funds in Serbia by visiting a MoneyGram agent location, provide the required identification and collect funds in EUR. Customers can send up to EUR 1,000 from Germany to Serbia. Data released by the World Bank indicates that in 2008, Serbians received USD 5.5 billion in remittances, mainly from Germany, Austria, Switzerland and the United States.

Alpha Bank is a banking and financial group in Southeast Europe with over 650 branches in the region. It currently operates 165 branch offices in more than 100 municipalities in Serbia.

In other news, MoneyGram has also extended its money transfer service in India by partnering with Abhyudaya Co-op Bank and Thane Janata Sahakari Bank.
