NFC Forum and Bluetooth SIG publish developers guide for NFC for Bluetooth pairing

Tuesday 20 December 2011 13:53 CET | News

The NFC Forum, a non-profit industry association that aims to advance the use of Near Field Communication (NFC) technology, and the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG), a trade association responsible for the development, promotion and protection of the Bluetooth specification, have published a new document titled “Bluetooth Secure Simple Pairing Using NFC”.

The document provides developers with examples of how to implement Bluetooth Secure Simple Pairing (SSP) using NFC to benefit from these two technologies when both are present in the same device.

The paper also describes the interaction of Bluetooth technology and NFC during SSP and provides examples of both negotiated and static handover in use cases involving both technologies like pairing devices with little or no user interface to smartphones, pairing devices with extensive user interfaces to smartphones or pairing devices such as TVs and smartphones to share photos or to use the phone as a remote control.
