The Smart Card Alliance Identity Council, a division of smart card technology multi-industry association The Smart Card Alliance, is set to turn its attention to cybersecurity and healthcare identity in the upcoming year, while also maintaining its focus on educational activities.

The Council’s move comes as the US administration has named cybersecurity as one of its main priorities. Throughout 2009, the Identity Council has collaborated with the Smart Card Alliance Healthcare Council on a number of projects looking to raise awareness of the importance of privacy, access and identity within the US healthcare information infrastructure.

The Identity Council is made up of more than 90 individuals from 49 end user, chip vendor, systems integrator, card vendor, biometrics provider, identity system and software vendor organizations.
