More than GBP 45 million of reported fraud has been committed in the South West of UK in 2012, a recent study unveils.

According to 2012 Fraud Track research from the accountancy and business advisory firm BDO, the total number of cases in the region has reached 46, up 11 percent of UK reported fraud, but the total cost has represented just over 3 percent of the UK total of GBP 1.37 billion.

The same source points out that across the UK, the value of total reported fraud in 2012 has fallen by a third to GBP 1.37 billion. However tax fraud, accounting for GBP 603 million alone, has doubled in the last two years. The Midlands (GBP 250 million) and the North East (GBP 172 million) were the UK’s biggest regions for fraudsters outside of London and the South East (GBP 625 million).
