Vivotechs offer comes after the US Department of Justice (DOJ) sued to block VeriFones proposed buy of Hypercom on antitrust concerns.
In November 2010, VeriFone announced plans to buy Hypercom in an all-stock deal valued at USD 485 million. In March 2011, ViVOtech approached VeriFone to acquire the US assets of Hypercom. In April 2011, VeriFone announced its intentions to sell Hypercom’s US assets to Ingenico for USD 54 million in cash.
In recent news, VeriFone Systems and Hypercom have made a statement with regard to the civil antitrust lawsuit filed against them by the US Department of Justice (DOJ). In response to the lawsuit, VeriFone and Hypercom plan to collaborate with the DOJ to better understand its concerns and to take in consideration various options for the planned divestiture of Hypercom’s US business, including the possibility of a divestiture to an alternative buyer.
